About the Director

Karen J. Zissoff received her degree in dance from York U. in Toronto, Canada; she is also a certified dance teacher through the Royal Academy of Dancing in London, England, with her Teaching Certificate & Teaching Diploma. Her training has been with several prominent teachers from Canada, Europe and the US. Ms. Zissoff has received several scholarships, such as a Canada Council Grant and Tenn. Arts Commission Dance Award. She has danced and set choreographic works with Memphis Classical Ballet, Tenn. Ballet, Project: Motion, and mounted a dance production for nine musicians and dancers in the city through the Tenn. Arts Commission. Her choreography won in the ballet division from the Tenn. Assoc. of Dance 1997 Choreographic Award. Her teachings have been with Arts Memphis (formerly Greater Memphis Arts Council’s) Center for Arts In Education, residencies in all levels of elementary to high school dance programs, collaborations with various schools in creative and ballet, and the Governor’s School for the Arts. Two of her former students won scholarships at a state dance conference in 1999. Two students have received scholarships to attend: Juilliard School of Arts in New York in 2002 and Virginia Commonwealth University, 2005. 

 

Karen Zissoff is founder and Artistic Director of Dance Works since 1987. Dance Works is a unique program of classical ballet creative and modern dance with live accompaniment in classes. The program is now in it’s twenty first year, offering yearly and summer programs.
